Switzerland is also helping to train 1300 health care professionals and modernise equipment in 22 Lithuanian hospitals. In addition, efforts are under way to increase energy efficiency in 15 of these hospitals. Switzerland is contributing CHF 45.6 million to a total budget of CHF 53.6 million for the two projects. Lithuania is financing the CHF 8 million difference. By signing the two agreements, Switzerland has committed the entirety of its enlargement contribution to Lithuania.

The agreements were signed in the presence of several high-level representatives of the Lithuanian ministries of health and finance. Switzerland was represented by high-level representatives of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). As several speakers emphasised, this support carries forward Swiss transition assistance in the 1990s, which helped to substantially improve the health of mothers and children in Lithuania and fostered a very positive image of Switzerland. The senior representatives attending the signing ceremony were also given first-hand information on the positive effects of Swiss assistance: The head of the neonatal department of the Vilnius University Children's Hospital spoke about his experiences with Swiss transition assistance. The director of the Mažeikiai Hospital explained what Swiss assistance means for Lithuanian hospitals. A representative of Geneva University Hospital praised the 20 years of collaboration between his hospital and Kaunas University Hospital.
