This emergency intervention consists of two components, (i) Nonfood items direct distribution in emergency situation and (ii) support for agricultural production in areas of return. The intervention will be highly mobile and flexible in order to respond quickly to the most urgent needs. In addition, given the security and humanitarian context in Walikale Territory, marked by both displacement and return movement, the project will also participate in supporting agricultural production in order to strengthen the resilience of communities.

In North Kivu, the territory of Walikale is strongly affected by conflicts since the beginning of 2013 due to the activism of various hostile forces across the province. The absence of a unified command within the hostile forces and the struggle for resources, especially mining, are the main reasons for chronic clashes. In addition, the territory of Walikale is suffering the consequences of the fighting in Masisi and Rutshuru territories between the FARDC (Forces Armees de la RDC) and various armed groups. The security situation in the territory is certainly volatile, nevertheless lull areas exist, mainly because of (fragile) truces between different conflict stakeholders. Thus, in addition to massive population displacement, return movements are important in the territory of Walikale.

To contribute to strengthening the resilience of the conflict affected population in North Kivu.
