Panel Discussion with Waste Management Experts – Ms Deepali Sinha Khetriwal (Sofies) and Ms Ritu Thakur (ICLEI South Asia)

Mumbai is the world’s fifth largest city in terms of waste generation. India generates over 150,000 tons of municipal solid waste every day. Only 80% of the waste is collected, less than 30% is treated. Rapid urbanization adds to the existing challenges. Until 2025, India’s waste generation is expected to more than double. How will India tackle the ever-growing amount of waste? Is waste segregation and recycling the solution to pollution? And can art change our negative perception of waste?

Join us at TARQ Art Gallery for a panel discussion on Friday, 13th July 2018 at 7:30 pm. Waste management experts – Ms Deepali Sinha Khetriwal (Sofies) and Ms Ritu Thakur (ICLEI South Asia) will discuss some of the challenges and potential solutions around waste management in India. Mr Andrin Fink of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) will moderate the session.

This event is organized by the Consulate General of Switzerland in Mumbai as a special contribution to the exhibition Waste Land curated by Mrs. Birgid Uccia featuring 7 Indian artists, who create works of arts using discarded materials. The exhibition and talk are a part of the event series celebrating 70 years of Swiss-Indian Friendship.

Location: TARQ Gallery Dhanraj Mahal, Colaba, Mumbai
