About the novel:

LAND SPIELEN (Playing Countryside)

A young family – two adults, three children - moves to the countryside. Exhausted by the intense city life, the adults hope for a new beginning – for the family as well as for their relationship. They prepare their modest house and all five try to make contact in the small village. But they cannot flee, not from themselves, not from the fact that they are strangers here. Real social contact only develops with the other two immigrants, the village teacher and his mentally unstable wife. The father and she seem to like each other particularly well. Triggered by this tension and by the growing friendship of the eldest son with the son of the forester, old and new, inner and outer conflicts break out. The novelist and playwright Daniel Mezger ("Balkanmusik", "Findlinge") presents with "Land spielen" a virtuoso debut novel and succeeds in telling this story of the search for happiness, of inner and outer foreignness and migration linguistically and formally grandiose with "Land spielen” (Playing Countryside).
