The main aim of the project is to improve the public passenger railway transport system between the cities of Malbork and Grudziadz (railway line Torun Wschodni – Malbork), predominantly located in the Pomorskie Voivodship, by purchasing modern rolling stock. This aim will be achieved by procuring four light rail diesel units of the latest technology, which will be operated by a private carrier on the basis of a concession agreement.

Contexte

The project is part of an important investment program prepared and implemented by the Pomorskie Voivodship and covering the whole public transport sector in the voivodship. It includes purchase of rolling stock, important railway track modernization projects financed by the European Union and investments in railway stations.

Objectifs

The goal of the project is to increase the operational efficiency, reliability, safety, environmental sustainability and comfort of public passenger railway transport in the region.

Groupes cibles

The direct beneficiary is the Pomorskie Voivodship receiving rolling stock of the latest available technology. Indirect beneficiaries are the 500'000 passengers per year benefitting from better connections, shorter journeys and more comfort and safety. Priority will be given to ensuring that the new trains are accessible for older and handicapped npassengers. Beneficiaries are also the 125'000 inhabitants of the municipalities along the railway line benefitting from reduced congestion on roads as well as from less pollution and noise.

Résultats

Résultats obtenus:  

  • Four light rail diesel units purchased
  • 34% increase in passenger satisfaction with train transport as compared to the baseline in 2011 has been achieved.
