2022 Floods in the Swat Valley

After the devastating floods in the Swat Valley in summer 2022, Switzerland proposed a flood analysis to the Pakistani government. The study is intended to provide specialists' insights into future flood hazards. The Swat Valley is prone to serious flooding. 



Swiss Ambassador paid a farewell call on the Foreign Secretary

Ambassador of Switzerland to Pakistan, H.E. Mr. Bénédict de Cerjat, paid a courtesy call on the Foreign Secretary, Mr. Sohail Mahmood last Friday. The Foreign Secretary congratulated Ambassador for Switzerland’s election to United Nations Security Council in June this year and acknowledged Switzerland’s international role in the multilateral arena as well as the country’s significant role in humanitarian and peace-building efforts. 


Signing ceremony of the last tranche of the Agreement between Switzerland and Pakistan concerning the Debt Service Suspension Initiative

The World Bank and the IMF had urged the G20 countries to suspend temporarily debt-service payments of 73 developing countries affected by COVID. While recognizing this Debt Service Suspension Initiative (DSSI), Switzerland as a bilateral creditor to Pakistan had also extended debt relief to Pakistan by signing three agreements concerning the extension of the DSSI.

To say Goodbye to Swiss business community in Karachi, the Ambassador of Switzerland to Pakistan, H.E. Mr. Bénédict de Cerjat, visited Karachi from 7 to 8 June 2022. Being the Patron-in-Chief, the Ambassador chaired the 164th meeting, marked with his farewell, of the Executive Committee of the Swiss Business Council, which is housing more than 50 companies representing Switzerland in Pakistan.

The Ambassador of Switzerland, H.E. Mr. Bénédict de Cerjat, hosted an address by the Governor of the State Bank of Pakistan, Dr. Reza Baqir, on "the Economy of Pakistan" at his residence on 3 February 2022. In his opening remarks, Ambassador de Cerjat highlighted the importance of Swiss investments in Pakistan and praised the Swiss Business Council in Pakistan for its active support to more than 50 member companies. He termed the increased autonomy of SBP and the revival of the IMF programme as positive developments and listed inflation, low economic growth, current account deficit and balance of payment as the key challenges.

A Swiss delegation led by Ambassador Vincenzo Mascioli, Director  of International Cooperation at the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration, visited Islamabad from 21-22 October 2021 to hold meetings with high-level Pakistani government officials and international partners. The objective of the visit was to assess the situation of Afghan refugees in Pakistan.
