Background |
A devastating earthquake of a magnitude 7.9 hit Peru's central coast on August 15th 2007 causing substantial damage to the water and sanitation distribution network in the province of Pisco. Follwoing the international appeal made by the national government together with the Pisco water utility (EMAPISCO) in the afermath of the earthquake, both Switzerland through SECO and Germany through KfW have decided to support the rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts in the most heavily affected towns of Pisco and San Andres in the water supply sector. |
Objectives |
Overall goal of the Project is to restore safe and sustainable water supply services to the approx. 90'000 inhabitants of Pisco and San Andrés. Measures under the project focus on the rehabilitation of the principal drinking water network as well as on the improvement of the operation and maintenance of the network. The Project complements efforts of the Peruvian Government in the rehabilitation of the distribution network. |

Expected results: Reconstruction of the drinking water transmission pipeline and principal distribution network in Pisco and San Andres Improvement and enlargement of a drinking water reservoir (2?300 m3), including comprehensive rehabilitation of/ additions to the hydraulic installation and control system, man-holes, bulk meters and connections.
