Visit of the Ambassador Simon Geissbühler, Assistant State Secretary at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs

On 27 and 28 October, Ambassador Simon Geissbühler, Assistant State Secretary at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), visited Serbia and held a number of meetings in Belgrade with Serbian officials as well as with civil society organizations’ representatives.

Amongst the Serbian officials, Assistant State Secretary Geissbühler met with Mr. Petar Petković, Director of the Office for Kosovo, with H.E. Mr. Aleksandar Tasić, Acting Assistant Minister for Multilateral Cooperation at the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and with Mr. Veljko Odalović, Secretary General of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, in his capacity as Chairman of the Serbian government’s Missing Persons Commission.

Meetings with civil society included encounters with representatives from long-term partner organizations of Switzerland in Serbia, such as the Helsinki Committee for Human Rights, the Belgrade Center for Human Rights, the Open Society Foundation, the Humanitarian Law Center, the Council for Inclusive Governance and the Belgrade Fund for Political Excellence.

Assistant State Secretary Geissbühler also met with a representative from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Serbia.

The goal of the visit was to promote the Swiss and Serbian relations in the field of human rights and peace policy as well as to contribute to the normalization of the relations between Serbia and Kosovo.
