On 7th December, Ambassador Urs Schmid met with Aleksandar Sapic, Mayor of Belgrade, at the Old Palace. He was accompanied by Jessica Auspurg, Attaché for Diplomatic Affairs.

Ambassador Urs Schmid congratulated Aleksandar Sapic on his appointment as Mayor of Belgrade. In the course of the stimulating conversation, Ambassador Schmid learned more about the most current and important projects in the city of Belgrade. In his remarks, Mayor Sapic pointed out that his focus well be on ensuring the needs and safety of Belgrade’s citizens.

Both parties complimented the successful cooperation and great friendship between Switzerland and Serbia, and particularly its capital. In Belgrade, Switzerland supports various projects in the field of infrastructure development, ecology, science and culture, as well as the development of the concept of a green and smart city. Mayor Sapic thanked Switzerland for the donation of trams by the city of Basel from 2001 onwards, and for the support for the establishment of the Science and Technology Park Belgrade. Ambassador Schmid looks forward to maintaining this high level of cooperation in the future.
