Swiss experts will provide an overview on the Swiss Cyber-security landscape and their research on the Internet of  Things (IoT).

Presentations:

Cyber-space and Cyber-crime in Switzerland
by Prof Angelo Consoli, Professor and Researcher, Head of Cyber-security Team at SUPSI University of Applied Sciences and Arts of Southern Switzerland.
Switzerland is one of the world’s most innovative research nations with a very dynamic high-tech sector.  Therefore, the Swiss actors (citizens, SMEs, industry, institutional partners and government) are increasingly exposed to cyber-attacks, requiring a constant monitoring and security assessments: cooperation, international bilateral negotiation and important countermeasures.
The presentation will highlight how the Swiss institutional actors cooperate with the private sector and the academia to face the cyber-security challenges.

TPM-Based Attestation of IoT Devices
by Prof. Dr. Andreas Steffen, Head of Institute for Networked Solutions (INS) at HSR University of Applied Sciences Rapperswil.
The Internet of Things (IoT) is extremely vulnerable to cyber-attacks. Malware deeply hidden within the kernel or operating system can subvert the proper functioning of crucial devices with potentially fatal consequences as e.g in the energy grid.
A research group at HSR University of Applied Sciences Rapperswil has created a software framework which allows to remotely attest the state of health of any IoT device. Since an infected device is liable to lie about its true state of health, a hardware Trusted Platform Module (TPM) on the device is used which guarantees the trustworthiness of the measurements. The attestation software adheres to the "Trusted Network Connect" (TNC) Internet standards and is freely available as part of the strongSwan open source project  (www.strongswan.org/tnc/).
