As a first step for launching Swiss-Taiwanese initiatives for dialogue and exchange on modern direct democracy, Rolf Frei, Director of the Trade Office of Swiss Industries and Bruno Kaufmann, Director of International Cooperation at the Swiss Democracy Foundation, organized a working dinner at the Residence on February 13 with the following distinguished discussants: Annette Lu, Former Vice-President and Founder of Democratic Pacific Union, Yi-Ying Lin, Deputy Mayor of Taichung City and Yeh-Chung Lu, Vice-President of Taiwan Foundation for Democracy. Taking the lead as a democratic city, Taichung will be hosting for the very first time the 2019 Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy which is an international platform that brings together cities around the globe committed to advancing democratic participation.
