The new Ambassador of Switzerland to Tajikistan, Mr. David Grichting, presented his credentials to the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, at a ceremony held at the Palace of Nations this morning.

Speaking to the Ambassador following the ceremony, the President congratulated him on his ambassadorial appointment and conveyed his hope that the existing bilateral relations between Tajikistan and Switzerland would further strengthen.

Ambassador David Grichting emphasized that Tajikistan and Switzerland have established diplomatic relations already 30 years ago. He mentioned "Since then, our countries have been working together in the field of water, rule of law and local economic development as well as climate change which are affecting mountainous regions". He also added Tajikistan and Switzerland have signed bilateral agreements to develop trade relations. Ambassador Grichting noted "With nearly 20 Swiss companies active in Tajikistan and a trade volume of around USD 700 million per year, our economic relations are significant and have a potential for growth”.

Ambassador David Grichting expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the warm welcome, and stated that it is a privilege to serve as the Ambassador of Switzerland to Tajikistan. He further expressed his commitment to ensuring relations between Tajikistan and Switzerland will flourish further during his mandate.
