OCHA - Support to the Yemen Humanitarian Pooled Fund (HPF)

The Humanitarian Pooled Fund (HPF) aims to promote a coordinated response towards the highest humanitarian priorities identified in the 2017 Revised Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan (YHRP) through the provision of funding for international and national NGOs and UN entities and with the involvement of sectorial coordination groups (clusters).

Allocation of SDC Funding to UNHCR Operations in 2017

In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises. SDC funding to UNHCR operations allows the UN Refugee Agency to respond proactively and to provide immediate protection and assistance to refugees and internally displaced people in life-threatening situations and underfunded emergencies.

Allocation of SDC Funding to WFP Operations in 2017

In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises. SDC funding to WFP operations allows the World Food Programme (WFP) to respond proactively and to provide immediate food assistance in life-threatening situations.

WFP Additional Contribution 2017 to Scale Up Operations in Yemen in Response to the Hunger Emergency

On 24 February 2017, SDC/HA pledged an additional allocation of CHF 15 million to support emergency relief operations to help populations facing starvation in parts of Africa (South Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria and the larger Lake Chad Region) and Yemen. This decision followed a call issued by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on 22 February 2017 urging for USD 4.4 billion aid to avert famine for 20 million people who risk starvation in these countries. Out of the CHF 15.0 million, CHF 7 million will be allocated to support WFP’s emergency operations in South Sudan, Nigeria and the larger Lake Chad region, and Yemen.

Additional Allocation 2017 to ICRC Operation in Yemen in Response to the Hunger Emergency

SDC funding to ICRC operations allows the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to respond proactively and to provide immediate protection and assistance for people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence.

Alleviating suffering of the affected population in Khamer, Yemen, through provision of integrated WASH services

Community feedback to Oxfam mobilisation teams indicated that, while households in Khamer see water as an urgent need, they prioritise income, cash and access to livelihoods opportunities above all in the current volatile conflict. In order to respond to identified needs, Oxfam identified a livelihoods and income generating approach to large scale works that will provide water to communities in a sustainable manner as well as amechanism for income generation and skills training.

In Siria la vastità delle distruzioni ha raggiunto dimensioni enormi e il numero dei senzatetto non smette di crescere. L’Alto Commissariato delle Nazioni Unite per i rifugiati (ACNUR) assicura il coordinamento di tutte le attività di ricostruzione. Dall’inizio della crisi siriana la DSC ha versato 13,4 milioni CHF all’organizzazioneper la sua attività in Siria, mentre alcuni esperti svizzeri hanno contribuito a sviluppare standard di costruzione che puntano al reinsediamento a lungo termine degli sfollati.
