Hintergrund Zimbabwe remains amongst the countries with the highest HIV prevalence rate worldwide for the age group of 15 to 49 years (11.6% in 2021). The country struggles to address the crisis, with inadequate public resources to provide quality services to the poor, and a shortage of health workers to deliver quality care and treatment. Thanks to Swiss support, over the past 20 years the Newlands Clinics has evolved into a centre of excellence for the comprehensive care of AIDS patients in Zimbabwe. Financially, the clinic remains heavily dependent on Swiss privat and public donations, and the NC’s costly treatment model limits its potential for replicability and scale up. Stepping up private sector engagement and accessing in-country funds will become essential for NC to ensure the viability of its operations.
