Afghanistan: Additional allocation to ICRC Operations Budget Extension Appeal 2022
The ICRC is a key humanitarian actor in Afghanistan with over 30 years’ presence and experience. The response in 2022 focuses on the protection of civilians emphasizing on community based protection, providing and bolstering health services by making life-saving care and physical rehabilitation available, enabling communities’ access to obtain essential services and build their resilience, supporting authorities to improve living conditions of detainees and supporting the Afghan Red Crescent Society to strengthen its capacities.

Background | The humanitarian situation in Afghanistan has further deteriorated since the Taliban take-over with over 24 million people dependant on humanitarian aid. Most developing projects which kept millions alive, has been suspended due to the sanctions regime, the economy at the verge pf collapse, repeated droughts further increase needs and the future looks grim. |
Objectives | Providing immediate protection and assistance for all people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence in Afghanistan. |
Target groups | Victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence as well as detainees and other vulnerable people. |
Medium-term outcomes | The ICRC is committed to responding rapidly and efficiently to the humanitarian needs of people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence by protecting the lives and dignity of all victims. The ICRC also endeavours to prevent suffering by promoting and strengthening humanitarian law and universal humanitarian principles. |
