The thematic Economy and Education Section promotes inclusive economic development, inclusive, equitable and quality education, and lifelong learning opportunities for all. The Section provides technical advice to SDC units at head office and at the country offices, implements its own projects, represents the SDC in Swiss and international institutions and dialogue forums, and promotes knowledge management and capacity development through network moderation.
Economy and Education
The Section:
- supports projects that promote inclusive private and financial sector development for the benefit of the SDC's target communities.
- boosts educational opportunities in low- and middle-income countries, as regards both basic education and vocational education and training.
- helps anchor private sector engagement within the SDC across all thematic areas and works to promote responsible private-sector business practices.
The Section achieves this by doing the following:
- providing thematic advice to staff of other SDC units in the representations as well as at head office for developing and implementing strategies and projects
- implementing bilateral projects and fostering and cultivating partnerships with multilateral players
- participating in national and global policy dialogue with the aim of anchoring and implementing systemic change at all levels
- managing and disseminating knowledge for the purposes of evidence-based project design and policy dialogue: knowledge-sharing is facilitated via the networks of the Economy and Education Section.
