La COSUDE presta su ayuda a Corea del Norte en el aprovechamiento agrícola de los terrenos en pendiente y su protección contra la erosión. La COSUDE fomenta la salud de la población gracias a un mejor acceso al agua potable y a las instalaciones sanitarias y distribuye leche en polvo a través del Programa Mundial de Alimentos de las Naciones Unidas.

El compromiso de la COSUDE en Corea del Norte comenzó en 1995 con ayuda humanitaria destinada a la población afectada por la severa hambruna de los años 1990. En 1997, la COSUDE abrió una oficina en Pionyang que puso progresivamente en marcha proyectos de desarrollo. A partir de 2012, la COSUDE dirige en Corea del Norte un programa puramente humanitario. Los objetivos de este programa consisten en una mayor seguridad alimentaria y de ingresos, abastecimiento de agua y depuración de las aguas residuales así como protección del medio ambiente.

Aprovechamiento agrícola de los terrenos en pendiente y protección contra la erosión

La escasez de alimentos empuja a los campesinos a explotar las pendientes más escarpadas. Esto tiene como consecuencia la desforestación y la erosión y aumenta el riesgo de catástrofes naturales. Por lo tanto, la COSUDE fomenta desde 2005 junto con el Gobierno y contrapartes locales una producción sostenible de arroz, patatas cereales y bayas en los terrenos en pendiente y los protege de la erosión plantando árboles frutales y pastizales en los taludes.

Agricultura y seguridad alimentaria

Salud gracias al agua potable y a las instalaciones sanitarias

El mal mantenimiento de las infraestructuras de abastecimiento de agua potable y la falta de instalaciones sanitarias en buenas condiciones son la causa de numerosas enfermedades. Las diarreas sobre todo están muy extendidas en Corea del Norte y conllevan la pérdida de valiosas vitaminas y calorías.

El agua potable mejora la seguridad alimentaria, reduce la mortalidad infantil, combate la pobreza y en general contribuye a mejorar el estado de salud de las personas en Corea del Norte.

Por eso, un programa de la COSUDE lanzado en 2012 fomenta el acceso al agua potable y a instalaciones sanitarias que funcionen por medio de:

  • Renovación de captaciones de manantiales y tuberías
  • Apertura de casetas de agua destinadas a los habitantes del barrio
  • Elaboración de directivas para la utilización del agua potable junto con UNICEF y el Ministerio del Agua

Agua

Leche en polvo suiza para las madres y los niños

Desde 1995, Suiza aporta leche en polvo al Programa Mundial de Alimentos de las Naciones Unidas en Corea del Norte. Instalaciones de producción locales utilizan la leche en polvo junto con el arroz, maíz, cereales y soja para producir una alimentación rica en proteínas y en vitaminas. Acerca de las estructuras del Programa Mundial de Alimentos y del Gobierno, un total de 1,3 millones de niños, mujeres embarazas y madres lactantes reciben anualmente una comida equilibrada cada día.

Emergency Food and Nutrition Assistance DPRK 2019

The Emergency Food and Nutrition Assistance DPRK 2019 Project responds to an urgent request of the DPR Korea to extend food assistance to its citizens in 2019, following a poor harvest after a nation-wide heat wave and regional floods in 2018. The assistance will be provided through the World Food Programme (WFP) and targets 50,000 children in the three highly affected provinces of the country, South Hwanghae, Ryanggang and Jaggang for a period of 12 months.


Allocation of SDC Funding to ICRC Operations in 2019

In line with the Good Humanitarian Donorship (GHD) principles, Switzerland recognizes the necessity of predictable and flexible funding to respond to changing needs in humanitarian crises. SDC funding to ICRC operations allows the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to respond proactively and to provide immediate protection and assistance for people affected by armed conflict and other situations of violence.



WASH Programme

01.02.2017 - 31.12.2020

The intervention focuses on the basic humanitarian need of access to WASH services through raising hygiene awareness, construction of WASH facilities and capacity building in rural areas. Providing sustainable access to WASH services shall improve the health of 40'000 beneficiairies through access to robust infrastructure, safe sanitation and protection of water sources that will also reduce exposure of rural communities to natural hazards.

 


Sustainable Livelihood and Disaster Mitigation (SLDM)

01.02.2017 - 31.08.2023

The intervention works on the nexus of DRR, food security and agroforestry and successor programme of the Sloping Land Management programme (SLM). Building on SLM, food security remains central, but DRR is the principle concern of the domain of intervention. Combining food security and DRR increases the scope to work holistically towards sustaining the resources on which livelihoods depend. The emphasis on sustainable food production addresses the humanitarian needs of communities. Coupling this with a focus on community action serves to enlarge the scope for groups and individuals to act more autonomously.

Improved Resilience of Children with Disabilities through DRR

01.03.2016 - 28.02.2017

The project seeks to improve the resilience of Children with Disabilities living in the Pongsan School for the Deaf through the development of their DRR capacities and the improvement of their living environment. The activities are considered as an inception of a further project focused on six schools for children with sensory impairments and lays an emphasis on the introduction of a School-Based Disaster Risk Reduction (SBDRR) Plan, which aims to strengthening the capacities of the children, their teachers and caretakers, the surrounding community and the relevant provincial and national authorities while also improving their infrastructure.

Through the usage of food aid in the form of Swiss dairy products, Swiss Humanitarian Aid contributes to the prevention and treatment of malnutrition, undernourishment, and disease. The SDC’s Humanitarian Aid administers the credit granted by parliament for a yearly amount of some CHF 20 million destined for the purchase of Swiss dairy products and their use for the benefit of the needy. Its task is to ensure a sustainable, targeted, and closely monitored food aid.
