The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose exclusively humanitarian mission is to ensure protection and assistance for victims of armed conflict and other situations of violence. The ICRC is Switzerland’s main humanitarian partner in the field of international humanitarian aid. Burundi: The country hosts refugees, mostly from the DRC and Rwanda. while hundreds of thousands of Burundians remain in neighbouring countries, but a significant return process is currently ongoing possibly posing conflicts related to access to land. The country continues to deal with successive waves of COVID-19. The pace of vaccination is slow. Detainees are held in overcrowded places of detention and health services are overstretched everywhere in the country. DRC: The humanitarian crisis is one of the most complex and prolonged ones: according to the most recent needs analysis, 27 million people urgently need access to humanitarian aid: there are 5.5 million IDPs. It is estimated that USD 1.9 billion is required to meet the needs of 8.8 million people. This is the number of people that the humanitarian community will try to reach in 2022. Also in 2022, as in previous years, the efforts deployed by the humanitarian aid community will be insufficient to meet the growing needs. |
