An inclusive world in which all persons enjoy their human rights and a decent life, and achieve their full potential

Fairmed and Christoffel Blindenmission (CBM) have joined forces in the LNOB Alliance. It works in fragile contexts, prioritizing the needs of the most marginalized and discriminated people especially of women, men, girls and boys with disabilities. It seeks to improve living conditions of individuals and empowering marginalized communities while also strengthening inclusive systems and services. The Alliance contributes to the implementation of the UN Conventions on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which Switzerland ratified in 2014.

Half of the world’s population still lacks access to essential health services. More than 800 million people are spending at least 10 per cent of their household income on health care driving almost 100 million people into poverty each year. Prevalence of disease and impairment are on the rise.  Poor, vulnerable and marginalized people face the worst health outcomes.

One in seven persons globally suffers from some kind of disability, and one fifth of them (200 million persons) are severely disabled. Some 150 million children under 18 years old have a disability.

Gender and disability combined represent some of the most severe forms of marginalization and discrimination. In this context,  the LNOB Alliance acts against discrimination, to promote inclusion and equality in civil society and gives a strong legitimacy for advocacy work.

The member organizations of the LNOB Alliance  realize that the COVID-19 crisis further increases inequalities and particularly hits the most marginalized and discriminated people. Vital services as accessible health systems are under threat. The alliance partners respond by adapting ongoing projects in dialogue with the partners to the situation, increasing prevention (sensitization on safe behavior, hygiene and testing & tracing), protection (equipping with protective material), treatment (access to general health services, provision of psychosocial councelling), and alleviation of consequences (cash transfers for essential needs).

Objetivos

Improve quality of life for the poor, vulnerable and marginalized communities (people living with disabilities and their families, people with inadequate essential health services) and to promote transformative changes with respect to national development policies and systems. Transformative change has to be reached by tackling exclusion, discrimination and inequality. The LNOB Alliance commits to these internationally recognized priorities of sustainable development. The members of the LNOB Alliance have a track record in reaching the people at the bottom billion, and with the new alliance programme aim to enlarge their contribution.
