Contexte | Bangladesh has been experiencing severe floods since mid-June 2024 due to heavy rainfall triggered by an active monsoon season. More than 14.6 million people have been affected across the southeastern, northeastern and northern parts of the country. Usually flood prone areas are more prepared during such seasons but this year, the floods occurred during a major political crisis, which further exacerbated the situation. |
Objectifs | This operation aims to address the immediate needs of people in the districts most affected by the floods through the provision of cash assistance, safe drinking water, sanitation, livelihoods, shelter, health, and disaster risk reduction support. |
Groupes cibles | Through this appeal, the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society will be targeting and prioritising the most affected communities, aiming to reach 300’000 people. Federation-wide efforts, meanwhile, target reaching 400’000 people in the southeastern, northeastern and northern part of Bangladesh. |
Effets à moyen terme |
Integrated assistance: Communities in disaster-affected areas restore and strengthen their safety, well-being, and longer-term recovery by providing shelter, livelihood support, mulipurpose cash grants, healthcare access, and quality Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene services. Protection and Prevention: Enhance the protection, resilience, and preparedness of disaster-affected communities by strengthening safety mechanisms, ensuring inclusive access to services, supporting equitable education, and providing tailored assistance to migrants and displaced individuals. |

Coordination avec d'autres projets et acteurs | The Emergency Appeal is part of a Red Cross and Red Crescent Federation-wide approach with different sub-interventions and is a flexible tool to respond to needs not considered by other actors. The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is part of the national humanitarian coordination structure and is in close contact with other humanitarian actors to avoid duplications, for example with the Humanitarian Coordination Task Team's Cyclone Remal Appeal also including the floods. Relevant Swiss interventions in the regions (Go4Impact and Bamboo for Climate Change) focus more on the prevention aspect of disasters. |
