L’inégalité entre les genres constitue l’un des principaux obstacles au développement durable, à la croissance économique et à la réduction de la pauvreté. La DDC œuvre pour que femmes et hommes bénéficient des mêmes droits, de sorte à pouvoir réaliser tout leur potentiel et à exploiter judicieusement leurs ressources.
La pauvreté reste intimement associée au sexe: selon des études internationales, environ 70% des personnes qui vivent dans une grande pauvreté sont des femmes. Les lois et les normes sociales désavantagent souvent les filles et les femmes, entravant leur accès aux soins de santé, à l’éducation, aux positions décisionnelles, aux ressources financières et au marché.
Les femmes travaillent souvent dans des conditions précaires et des secteurs peu productifs et sont privées de sécurité sociale. De plus, elles gagnent moins que les hommes. Elles interviennent aussi moins que les hommes dans les décisions sociales, politiques et économiques et il n’est pas rare qu’elles soient victimes de violence, de discrimination et d’exclusion sexospécifiques.
En œuvrant pour que femmes et hommes bénéficient des mêmes droits et des mêmes conditions, la DDC implique les hommes et les garçons dans ses activités en rapport avec les questions de genre. Son approche égalitaire s’applique à tous ses projets et stratégies. Ses domaines d’action prioritaires sont les situations de conflit, les contextes fragiles, l’économie et la politique.
Avec sa «Stratégie Egalité des Genres et Droits des femmes du DFAE», adoptée en 2017, l'égalité entre femmes et hommes est devenue un pilier majeur de la politique étrangère de la Suisse. La Stratégie de coopération internationale 2021-2024 de la Suisse considère l'égalité des sexes comme un thème transversal pris en compte dans toutes les activités de la DDC. La Suisse s’engage également à mettre en œuvre l’Agenda 2030 de développement durable de l’ONU dont l’objectif no 5 est de parvenir à l’égalité des sexes et autonomiser toutes les femmes et les filles. Elle est signataire de la Convention sur l’élimination de toutes les formes de discrimination à l’égard des femmes (Convention CEDEF), adoptée par l’ONU en 1979. L’égalité entre femmes et hommes est inscrite à l’art. 8, al. 3 de la Constitution fédérale de 1999.

Safeguard Young People (SYP) - Tanzania

With 62% of its population below 25 years, the Safeguard Young People (SYP) programme supports Tanzania’s demographic dividend. The project advances young people’s sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) through a gender-responsive and inclusive policy environment, empowered youth who make informed decisions, and responsive health and education systems. SYP builds on 10 years of regional experience and UNFPA’s expertise.
EmPower II: Women for Climate Resilient Societies

With EmPower II, SDC contributes to a SIDA-funded project of UN-Women and UNEP promoting climate-resilient development for women and other marginalized groups. SDC’s support enables disaggregated data products for gender-responsive DRR and climate strategies and enhances capacities on the subnational level among policy-makers and CSOs. SDC’s support also facilitates financial access and literacy on renewable energy in Cambodia, Bangladesh and Indonesia.

ACT-2 improves citizens’ participation in decision making at the local and national level through and with the support of civil society organizations (CSOs). Selected mission-driven CSOs are supported to strengthen constituency, diversify funding and effectively engage in advocacy. They jointly advocate with complementary CSOs and informal groups to increase impact and legitimacy. CSOs initiate dialogue and collaboration with local authorities, private sector and media to achieve development results.
Human Rights Grants (HRG) program in Tajikistan

Migrant workers and refugees face obstacles to access decent work in the Middle East, one of the largest migrant hosting regions, which limits their ability to contribute to their countries of origin and destination. To maximize benefits of migration and reduce harm, Switzerland engages various public and private stakeholders for the promotion of decent working conditions in Jordan, Lebanon and the Gulf, through access to justice, migrant empowerment and addressing worker welfare in the green and just transition.

La violence basée sur le genre et particulièrement la violence sexuelle est un des problèmes de protection le plus répandu et le plus grave auquel sont confrontées surtout les femmes et les filles à l’est de la RDC. Dans une approche intégrée, ce projet vise à la fois à répondre, prévenir et renforcer la résilience des individus et de la communauté face à la violence basée sur le genre.

This intervention aligns with the humanitarian, peace and development nexus and will contribute to durable solutions.

In Myanmar, the pandemic and military coup have increased the risks for gender-based violence (GBV) and deep-rooted gender inequality. Although the Islamic State (IS) was defeated territorially more than five years ago, 2.5 million people in Iraq are in need of humanitarian assistance. This project aims to address key protection issues, such as lack of access to civil legal documents, in displacement-affected communities in Diyala and Ninewa governorates. The goal is to achieve durable solutions through access to essential services and handover to national agencies through capacity building and advocacy.
Women’s Increased Leadership for Democracy in Georgia

To engage more women in Georgia’s political and public life, the WILD project will (i) increase the political literacy and skills of 1’150 locally active women, their organizations and public servants; (ii) sensitize 60 journalists, and 150 data producers and users on gender-related reporting; (iii) contribute to development and adoption of gender-responsive laws and policies, benefitting some 38’350 public servants. The project will engage with men to foster behavioural change.

Le projet « Réinsertion des détenu.e.s en Algérie » contribue à la promotion de la réinsertion des détenu.e.s les plus vulnérables dans le tissu social algérien, dans un but déclaré de renforcer la cohésion sociale, une priorité pour le gouvernement. Le projet propose un accompagnement à la Direction Générale de l’Administration Pénitentiaire et de la Réinsertion (DGAPR) pour la modernisation et l’optimisation de la prise en charge et de la formation des détenu.e.s, dans le but de faciliter leur réinsertion sociale.
