Progetto concluso

The Umbrella Facility (UF) for Trade, a Multi-Donor Trust Fund for Trade and Development, supports analytical trade work across the World Bank Group (WBG). It is implemented by IBRD/IFC, one of the biggest institutional supporter of analytical work and capacity development on trade within the WBG.

Contesto

The Umbrella Facility for Trade supports work programs developed annually by the Bank's Regions (WBG's geographic units) that work on trade to implement activities that fall under the four pillars of the WBG Trade Strategy, namely (i) trade competitiveness and diversification- (ii) trade facilitation, transport logistics and trade finance- (iii) support for market access and international trade cooperation- and (iv) managing shocks and promoting greater inclusion.

Obiettivi

The overarching objective is that the UF serves as a vehicle for developing countries that seek to develop dynamic and resilient economies through expanded opportunities in trade. To this end, the countries supported by the UF will be more closely integrated into the global economy with increased trade. The UF will bring greater innovation through dynamic pilot activities, for example on global value chains, regional integration, connectivity,

competition and trade, and trade and poverty, as well as supporting growing areas such as trade-gender linkages, trade facilitation and services trade.

Increased assistance to diversify exports, both in terms of new products and in penetrating new geographic markets.

Increased actions to reduce tariff and non-tariff barriers to trade that hamper access to markets for goods and services.

Support global advocacy on trade issues through deeper knowledge partnerships and exchanges, and create public goods through research, data and analysis in the public domain.

Reduced costs associated with moving goods and services, including along international supply chains, whether these are measured in terms of time, money, or reliability.
