Federal Councillor Micheline Calmy-Rey, head of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), will make an official working visit to China from 27-29 June 2010.

Sixty years ago, Switzerland was one of the first western countries to recognise and to enter into diplomatic relations the newly founded People’s Republic of China. Federal Councillor Micheline Calmy-Rey, head of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs will travel to China from 27-29 June 2010 for an official working visit to celebrate this anniversary. 

The visit will focus on the opening of the official political dialogue that Switzerland and China have agreed as a means to deepen their bilateral relations. While In Beijing, the Head of the FDFA will meet her Chinese counterpart and other high-ranking officials.

Prior to the talks in Beijing, Mrs Calmy-Rey will visit the world expo in Shanghai where Switzerland is represented with a pavilion that has become one of the attractions of EXPO 2010. A visit of the city pavilion of Basel, Geneva and Zurich is also scheduled.
