The Estonian priorities to fight against crimes foresee measures of prevention and better investigations of crimes. The project supports these activities by carrying out measures to increase the capacity of forensic science in Estonia, to enhance pre-trial procedures, and to facilitate the exchange of information with other European countries.

The Scientific Exchange Programme between the New Member States and Switzerland, Sciex-NMS.ch for short, has given over 500 young researchers from new EU member states the opportunity to complete a short-term residency in Switzerland to further their research.

Energy Efficiency in Public Buildings

The project aims at reducing emission of greenhouse gases by increasing energy efficiency in public buildings and improving the living environment of people through the promotion of energy-efficient building standards. In particular, four buildings are renovated and two new buildings constructed according to technical specifications formulated in the feasibility study on low-energy buildings developed specifically for the climate of Estonia.

Environmental monitoring in Estonia

Switzerland has equipped Estonian laboratories and monitoring stations with modern devices and financed the training of personnel. This has given Estonia comprehensive, reliable environmental data on water, air, radioactivity and natural disasters.

Financial Reporting Technical Assistance Project

Despite major reforms by the new EU Member States to their legal
and regulatory frameworks governing corporate sector accounting
and auditing, there is a substantial unfinished institutional
development agenda in the field of financial reporting. The
Financial Reporting Technical Assistance Program provides support
to five national administrations (in Estonia as well as the Czech
Republic, Poland, Latvia, Slovenia) which face capacity
constraints and challenges in fully implementing – both in law
and in practice – the very demanding obligations imposed by the
rapidly-evolving acquis communautaire in this field.

Project Preparation Facility (PPF)

The Swiss Contribution to enlargement aims to finance a broad variety of projects. The PPF provided the necessary financial assistance to enable Executing Agencies to submit high quality project proposals. This was especially important in the case of complex projects.
