President Ignazio Cassis to travel to Romania

On Thursday, 3 November, President Ignazio Cassis will travel to Romania, where he will meet with President Klaus Werner Iohannis, Prime Minister Nicolae Ciucă and the presidents of both chambers of the Romanian parliament. In Bucharest, President Cassis will sign an agreement implementing Switzerland’s second contribution. Further topics likely to be addressed during the visit include the war in Ukraine and Switzerland’s relations with the European Union.

The official visit by President Cassis to Bucharest underlines the good bilateral relations between Switzerland and Romania. On 3 November, the talks between President Cassis and President Iohannis will focus on Switzerland's strengthened partnership with Romania through the second Swiss contribution, the war in Ukraine and Switzerland's relations with the European Union.

President Cassis will then meet with Prime Minister Ciucă before signing the agreement implementing Switzerland’s second contribution with Finance Minister Adrian Câciu. Switzerland’s second contribution to selected EU member states is an investment in security, stability and prosperity in Europe. The Swiss delegation will end the visit by meeting the presidents of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies. President Cassis will be accompanied on his visit by National Council members Benjamin Roduit (The Centre/VS), Pierre-André Page (SVP/FR), Nicolas Walder (Greens/GE) and Céline Weber (GLP/VD). They are all members of the Swiss-Romanian Parliamentary Friendship Group.
