Federal Councillor Karin Keller-Sutter stresses the significance of the meeting: "It is important for our two major European financial centres to work closely together and in alignment." The meeting in London will cover economic developments and the financial outlook, as well as international financial and tax topics.
In addition, the two finance ministers will inform each other about the domestic approval and implementation procedures for the Berne Financial Services Agreement signed in December 2023. The Agreement permits or facilitates mutual market access in selected areas of the financial sector. Approval and implementation of the Agreement should take place as quickly as possible, with completion by the end of 2025 at the latest, in order for the Agreement to enter into force shortly thereafter.
The United Kingdom is the Switzerland's fourth most important trading partner, with an annual trade volume of around CHF 20 billion.
