Regional and global challenges of Swiss foreign policy

Wednesday, 16.11.2016 – Wednesday, 16.11.2016, Outstanding Switzerland in Europe - Lecture Series 2016/2017

EDA; Conference Assembly

In February 2016, the Swiss Government issued a new foreign policy strategy. The strategy lays on four main pillars: firstly, the success of our country needs a solid partnership with our neighbors and with the European Union as a whole; secondly, Switzerland needs deep and broad relations to the global players; thirdly, the strategy includes a commitment to further enhance Switzerland’s engagement for peace and security and last but not least a commitment to international cooperation and sustainable development.

Ambassador Roberto Balzaretti, Head of the Directorate for Public International Law at the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs will discuss how Switzerland wants to achieve a stable and reciprocally satisfactory relation with the EU; a strong presence outside the European Continent; and how it engages in the collective effort for peace, security and development, defending a right based approach, initiating solutions and building bridges to address the global challenges we face.
