At the OSCE Climate Change Conference, hosted by the OSCE Secretary General Helga Schmid, high-level participants discussed the implications of climate change for security and stability. Swiss State Secretary Livia Leu who was one of the panelists, emphasized the need to deepen cooperation on this critical issue by enhancing the sharing of experiences, of best practices and creating synergies where possible. She underlined the important role of the OSCE as a regional platform to act and raise political awareness of the security challenges posed by climate change. Addressing the nexus between climate change and security is a key topic for Switzerland and one of four thematic priorities for its seat on the UN Security Council for the 2023-24 period. On the sidelines of the conference State Secretary Leu met Foreign Minister of North Macedonia, Bujar Osmani, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and US Special Climate Envoy John Kerry.
