The bilateral Framework Agreement foresees the possibility of utilizing a maximum of 1.5% of the total allocation to cover certain management costs in the beneficiary country. In Hungary, bomb threats have become a real problem for the judicial system and their number has been increasing over the last few years. Visitors and their baggage need to be screened in order to make sure no explosives or weapons are brought into the courts. Unfortunately, many court buildings do not have the required facilities for the screening of visitors and the security checks need to be conducted by security personnel. The project aims to improve the security level at selected courts across all regions of Hungary through the purchase of x-ray screening facilities and metal detectors, and to enhance the IT infrastructure of the courts through the purchase of IT equipment.

The project aims to improve the working conditions of police employees and the living conditions of asylum seekers through the rehabilitation of initially ten selected security-related buildings. The buildings included in the project are in poor conditions. Not enough maintenance or improvements have been made and today the buildings do not conform to EU requirements. They are operated with very high costs since regular maintenance work has not been performed. Some buildings have had some renovation, but for meaningful energy savings as well as financial savings further modernisation is required.

Waste Monitoring Middle Danube Inspectorate

The Middle Danube Valley Inspectorate for Environmental Protection, Nature Conservation and Water Management aims at improving quantitatively and qualitatively emissions control in order to protect the health of the population and the environment. Switzerland contributes CHF 5.078 mio. to this project that will diminish the risk of contamination of air, soil and water (namely ground water resources).

Water Supply Rehabilitation Ózd

The control system for the water supply in the municipality of Ózd is antiquated. A district with 700 to 800 households are not connected to the central water supply network. Switzerland intends to change this situation by a project contribution of CHF 7.1 million. The aim is to ensure the same level of service standard in the entire municipality, to improve the water quality, and to reduce maintenance costs.

Switzerland is contributing CHF 4.12 million to a project in Balassagyarmat to reduce maintenance costs and ensure the reliability of water supply. Water mains and household connections with the largest number of pipe bursts will be replaced. The investments will also have a positive impact on water quality.

As part of its enlargement contribution, Switzerland is supporting this tourism project to strengthen Destination Management Organisations (DMO) in the economic development areas of Northern Hungary and the Northern Great Plain. The project focuses on medical tourism.
