United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)- Earthquake Response 2025

With the most recent geophysical disaster, Afghanistan is facing a dual humanitarian crisis. A 6.0-magnitude earthquake in eastern provinces has left over 500,000 people in urgent need, while refugee returns from Pakistan have surged to more than 100,000 in early September alone—many to earthquake-affected areas. Humanitarian resources are overstretched as UNHCR and other agencies work to deliver life-saving assistance, protection, and reintegration support.
