The tasks of the embassy

As the official representation of Switzerland, the embassy covers all matters concerning diplomatic relations between Switzerland and Albania. It represents Swiss interests in the areas of political, economic, and cultural affairs. The embassy also coordinates Swiss development cooperation activities to support Albania’s reforms and European integration.

The embassy supports cooperation between Switzerland and Albania and promotes the Swiss economy.  It establishes contacts with Swiss businesses and provides them with general information and legal advice concerning the economy of Albania. The embassy monitors the economic and political situation in Albania and communicates developments that are of interest for Switzerland.

Development cooperation is a core area of activity within the embassy. This includes the implementation of the Swiss Cooperation Strategy in Albania 2018-2021   as well as the coordination of a wide range of development programmes and projects. A dedicated team coordinates the support Switzerland provides in the areas of democratisation, economy, infrastructure, energy and health through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

The embassy fosters collaboration in the areas of science, technology and education with the aim of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in terms of research and innovation. It promotes the exchange of ideas between scientific institutions and universities. It also supports Swiss students in Albania and tries to encourage qualified students from Albania to study in Switzerland.

Moreover, the embassy promotes cultural activities that build bridges between Swiss and Albanian art, artists and cultural institutions. It sees culture as a useful tool for building identity and communication between countries.
