Video conferencing in court proceedings and judicial management

The project shall make court proceedings faster, cheaper, safer, more comfortable and environment saving by enabling parties to attend court hearings over video conferencing. Therefore, 15 courtrooms and courthouse locations, 5 police arrest houses and 2 prosecutors’ offices will be equipped with video conferencing facilities.

Treatment and rehabilitation of drug-dependent offenders

The project will provide drug treatment and rehabilitation services for drug-dependent offenders in prison or on parole and thus improve the criminal situation in Estonia. After the project closure the established drug treatment system will be continued and developed further by means of the Estonian budget.

Increasing fire safety in Estonia

The project aims at increasing the fire safety of 24-hour social welfare and health care institutions, which are over 200 nursing homes and hospitals. To achieve this goal the fire safety requirements for these buildings are prepared, manuals drafted and the staff of these establishments is trained.

By financing two coordinated projects with CHF 3.3 million, Switzerland is helping to optimise the technology of operational centres and rescue services in Estonia.

Reorganisation of Children's homes

Today orphans are living mostly in old mansion houses that are not suitable for the purpose, whose maintenance costs are very high and renovation would not be cost efficient. Therefore, the project will construct ten family type children homes that will serve as a new model sample for reorganisation of substitute home services in whole Estonia.

Technical Assistance Fund

The bilateral Framework Agreement foresees the possibility of utilizing a maximum of 1.5% of the total allocation to cover certain management costs in the beneficiary country. The technical as-sistance will support the submission of qualitative projects, transparent processes, and a good visibility of the Swiss Contribution in Estonia.
