Federal Council approves definitive negotiating mandate

At its meeting on 8 March 2024, the Federal Council approved the negotiating mandate with the EU in its definitive form. The mandate adopted takes account of the results of the consultation with the foreign affairs committees (FACs) and other interested parliamentary committees, the cantons and the views of the social and economic partners.


President Berset and Federal Councillor Cassis receive Hungary’s Prime Minister Orbán

Bern, 21.11.2023 - On Tuesday 21 November, federal councillors Alain Berset, president of the Swiss Confederation and Ignazio Cassis, head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), received a courtesy visit from a delegation from Hungary headed by the country’s prime minister, Viktor Orbán. The exchange centred on bilateral relations, Switzerland's European policy objectives, Hungary's presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2024 and current international issues.

Annual Meeting 2023 in Hungary

On 23th of May 2023 the first annual meeting on the Second Swiss Contribution to Hungary took place in Budapest, as part of the regular encounters between Switzerland and Hungary. The Swiss and the Hungarian delegations discussed the progress made in the preparation of programmes and projects to be funded in the framework of the Swiss-Hungarian Cooperation Programme launched in January this year.

Framework Agreement for the second Swiss-Hungarian Cooperation Programme

Swiss Ambassador Jean-François Paroz, representing Switzerland, and Hungarian Minister for Regional Development, Dr. Tibor Navracsics, representing Hungary, officially signed the Framework Agreement for the second Swiss-Hungarian Cooperation Programme on 8 November 2022, as part of Switzerland’s second contribution to selected EU member states. Since 19th of December 2022 the Framework Agreement has been provisionally applied and it has taken effect as of the 26th of January 2023. The text of the signed Framework Agreement is presented below.

Switzerland and Hungary start new cooperation

On 8 November 2022 Swiss Ambassador Jean-François Paroz and the Hungarian Minister for Regional Development, Dr. Tibor Navracsics officially signed the Framework Agreement for the new Swiss-Hungarian Cooperation Programme in Budapest, in the presence of Ms. Andrea Studer, Assistant Director General of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. The programme, which is part of Switzerland’s second contribution to selected EU member states, aims at reducing economic and social disparities in Hungary. The signing of the agreement is an important milestone in the long tradition of cooperation between Switzerland and Hungary.
