Switzerland and Norway sign protocol of amendment to double taxation agreement

On 20 June 2019 in Oslo, Switzerland and Norway signed a protocol of amendment to the agreement for the avoidance of double taxation with respect to taxes on income and capital (DTA). The protocol implements the minimum standards for double taxation agreements.    

In particular, the protocol of amendment contains an abuse clause which refers to the main purpose of an arrangement or transaction and thus ensures that the DTA is not abused.

The cantons and the business circles concerned have welcomed the conclusion of the protocol of amendment. It still has to be approved by parliament in both countries before it can come into force.






Swiss government names new Ambassadors

The Swiss government (Federal Council) has approved the list of diplomatic staff transfers scheduled for 2014 submitted by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. The changes will be made in accordance with the normal rate of transfers, to be communicated at the time of the decision by the Federal Council. The appointments of Heads of Mission take effect as soon as the authorities in the host country communicate their approval. The Federal Council takes this opportunity to express its gratitude to the Ambassadors due to retire for the services rendered.
