UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon has appointed Philippe Lazzarini, currently UN Resident Humanitarian Coordinator in Somalia and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), as his Deputy Special Representative for the UN Assistance Mission in Somalia.

The assistance mission was established in May 2013 by the UN Security Council in order to coordinate international support for the Somali government. The FDFA, which has been involved in Somalia for a number of years, is pleased to note the appointment of Philippe Lazzarini to this post which is important in humanitarian and development policy terms.
