Application for birth registration

Paternity recognition

Neither official paternity recognition procedure nor official document exists in Tanzania to legally establish the paternity of children born out of wedlock.

According to Tanzanian law, no person shall be entered in the register as the father of a child born out of wedlock except at his own request and upon his acknowledging himself to be the father of the child and signing, or affixing his mark to, the register and birth certificate as such.

The competent civil status registry in Switzerland might choose to do a paternity recognition procedure in Switzerland in order to register
the child.

Please note that children born before 1 January 2006 to a Swiss father not married to the mother did not acquire Swiss citizenship by birth but will have to apply for naturalisation under Article 58c.

Swiss identity documents and foreign residence permit

A regular Swiss identity document can only be issued once the birth of the child has been registered in the Swiss civil status register, or rather once the child’s Swiss nationality has been confirmed. In urgent cases, please contact the competent Swiss representation.
