The main objective of the position is to assist the Consul General and the Consular section in all administrative and secretarial tasks. The assistant works in close collaboration with the responsible persons of this section.

Assistant to the Consul General:

Participating in the planning and implementation of high-level bilateral visits as well as outreach events of the Embassy.

Assisting in protocol, administrative matters and reporting on meetings.

Responsible for preparation of consular presentations in the Consular region (Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar).

Organization of official meetings with the authorities (for consular affairs).

Organizing the venue of Swiss delegation trips.

Responsibilities consular works:

Research in specific topics. Counter services at the Consular section in Thai, English and German. Handling clients with regards to civil status matter, certificates and other consular works. Documentation and data management for registration of Swiss citizens and address changes in the data base of eVera. Holiday replacement in Consular protection Section.


University degree, with minimum of two years work experience in an administrative or similar position. Computer literate, Microsoft Office package. Sound knowledge of routine administrative management tasks

Languages: Thai, English and German (spoken and written). Good general knowledge of French and/or Italian will be an asset.

NATIONAL PROJECT Assistant (50-100%)

Background: With Asia and the Pacific, being the most hazard-prone region in the world, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) Humanitarian Aid supports the enhancement of disaster risk reduction and rapid response (DRR & RR) capacities in the South-East Asia and the Pacific. In 2013, SDC established a Regional DRR & RR Advisory Hub with a three-fold mandate of: 1) DRR mainstreaming and DRR-targeted interventions in SDC programs and projects; 2) Policy Dialogue and strengthening partners’ DRR capacities in the region; and 3) Being a regional rapid response stand-by unit for SDC/HA in case of emergencies. The SDC HA Hub is looking for a National Project Assistance for one year with an occupation degree between 50-100%.

Responsibilities: As a member of the SDC Regional DRR & RR Advisory Hub at the Embassy of Switzerland, the National Project Assistant’s tasks will include the following:

Monitoring and Reporting

  1. Attending and reporting back on work-related meetings in Thailand and the region, as requested;

  2. Writing situation briefings and reports in English on developments related to disaster risk reduction and management (DRR/M) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) in Southeast Asia and the Pacific;

  3. Assisting the team technically in targeted project work and in project management;

  4. Assisting with disaster risk mapping and GIS of SDC projects in the region and advise on disaster risk reduction mitigation measures;

  5. Assisting in drafting speeches and talking points on the work of the SDC HA Hub in Bangkok;

  6. Regularly monitoring open source media, online emergency platforms and social media of fast and slow-onset disasters in Southeast Asia and the Pacific region;

  7. Immediately informing the Senior Regional DRR & Rapid Response Advisor of impending or ongoing medium to large-scale emergencies in the region.


  1. Keeping the agenda, the contact dada-base and library of the Hub up-to-date; 

  2. End-to-end handling of mission logistics, from flight ticket purchase to planning mission itinerary to overviewing expenditures;

  3. Participating in the planning and logistical preparation of visits and outreach events of SDC HA Hub in Bangkok.

    Networks and Communication

  1. Monthly updating of the Hub’s contacts’ database of national and international partners in the fields of DRR/M and CCA;

  2. Ensuring flawless written and oral translations (Thai-English both ways), as needed.

  3. Promoting the work of the SDC HA Hub in Bangkok, ex: keep factsheets up-to-day and dissemination.

    Required qualifications:

    -    University diploma in Environmental Sciences, Engineering or related fields (hydrology, geology, agronomy, forestry, geography, GIS, etc.);

    -    Relevant knowledge and experience in natural resource management, disaster risk reduction and management, emergency management, climate change adaptation or related fields, preferably in international organisations, research institutions, public administration, civil society organisation or academia; 

    -    Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Thai. Fluency in German, French, Lao, Khmer or Burmese is an advantage.

Type of contract and Period: Contract of employment through the Embassy of Switzerland in Bangkok according to the Thai labour law: Period:  from March or April 2020 for one year renewable.
