Kant Water Supply Project

SECO has a longstanding partnership with the Kyrgyz Government aiming to develop and strengthen the urban water and sewerage sector of the country. Responding to the significant institutional and infrastructural needs, SECO engaged in 2013 in the Kant Water Supply Project (Phase I) on co-financing basis with EBRD. The municipality and water company have engaged in a public private partnership scheme. The project will rehabilitate the water and partly the waste water infrastructure of Kant and improve the management of the water company. The project with an overall budget of EUR 7,65 million, will be financed by an EBRD loan of EUR 1,5 mio., a grant by EBRD of EUR 0,45 mio. and a grant by SECO of EUR 5,7 mio.
Sustainable trade capacities for fisheries value-chains

Indonesia is one of the world’s largest exporters of tuna, seaweed, and shrimp but its seafood industry is characterized by high-volume-low-value commodity production, mostly exported in bulk as raw products. The aim of the project is to support strengthening the trade capacity of the Indonesian fisheries sector.

WAVES and the Natural Capital Accounting Program help developing countries to value their natural capital and ecosystem services and how to use this information for policy making in favour of a sustainable development.

This program aims at providing technical assistance and training to Peruvian subnational governments in the area of public finance management (PFM). The objective is to improve public services delivery and increase cost transparency at the decentralized level. In Peru, regional governments and local governments represent more than 40% of total public spending. However, very little systematic action has been directed so far to support the strengthening and modernization of regional and local governments, thus reducing the capacity of sub-national governments to soundly deliver key public services in areas such as education, health, water and sanitation, waste management, public transport, and security.

The third phase of the MTEF program has two main objectives. First, it aims to meet the demands of the Nicaraguan authorities to strengthen their Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF), and draw on the recommendations laid in the final external review and thus amplify the scope of the Nicaraguan MTEF model and allow the MTEF become a more useful policy making tool. Secondly, the project has a regional component, that focus on the needs of central american countries in this area, so as to contribute to the dissemination of MTEF systems, while learning and adopting the Nicaraguan good practices in the subject.
Improving Healthcare Hazardous Waste Management in Dakhaleya Governorate, Egypt

The Healthcare Hazardous Waste Management Project will realize one important aspect of the Egyptian National Strategy for Hazardous Medical Waste Management: the establishment of centralized incineration facilities including the required capacity building and training. The experience made with the project shall be fed back into the future discussion to revise and upgrade the strategy and into a policy dialog to improve health care waste management in Egypt.
