Contribution to the Geneva Water Hub (2023-2027)

Globally, access to fresh water resources are dwindling due to growing demand, increasing pollution and climate change. The Geneva Water Hub, co-hosted by the University of Geneva and the Graduate Institute, is an international center of competence for transboundary water resources management. Through research, education, advocacy and mediation, the Hub addresses water insecurity in water scarce regions, helps to prevent water conflicts and contributes to peace, stability and sustainable development.

Au Burkina Faso, la hausse de la consommation alimentaire de la population se heurte à la faible performance de production des entreprises agricoles. Pour y pallier, la DDC renforce leurs capacités d’investissement ainsi que leur environnement économique afin d’impulser des dynamiques de développement des marchés, créateurs d’emplois et de richesses pour les plus pauvres. La démarche répond aux exigences d’une croissance durable en s’attaquant aux causes de fragilité multidimensionnelle.

Humanitarian assistance to people affected by the protracted crisis in Venezuela

Despite a moderate recovery in some economic indicators during 2022, the Venezuelan economy continues to contract during 2023. Meanwhile, there is no improvement in the structural causes of the humanitarian crisis. As a result, the needs of the most vulnerable are still high. Therefore, Caritas aims to facilitate access on health, nutrition, food security and livelihoods, for vulnerable families in eight states according to the Guidance Note for Venezuela 2022-2024.

Greece: SET Forst fires, August 2023

Due to the devastating forest fires in several parts of Greece and resulting needs for international response the Greek authorities accepted the offer for assistance submitted by Switzerland. Based on the agreement between SDC/H and the Swiss Armed Forces (ADRIANA) a joint deployment (SDC/Swiss Armed Forces) with two Superpuma helicopters (Swiss Air Force) and respective staff members is planned to support the Greek responders to limit damage of nature and infrastructure by dropping water on the burning areas and in particular to protect and support the affected population. A similar deployment took place in August 2021.

NMAC: Culture for Development

A strong independent cultural sector contributes to safeguarding universal democratic values, strengthens critical thinking and promotes social cohesion and inclusion. However, its potential in North Macedonia remains underutilized due to limited capacities and financial resources. Switzerland will support the independent cultural scene to develop quality production, to become more strategic, to improve their financial basis and predictability, promoting dialogue and democratic participation.

United Nations Development Program (UNDP): South Sudan Electoral Support Project

01.08.2023 - 31.12.2026

The proposed project seeks to finance phase 1 of the electoral support in partnership with joint UNDP, UNMISS and the members of UN Country Team in South Sudan. The National Election Commission (NEC), RTGoNU and other relevant actors such as academia and civil society shall be key stakeholders in executing the project. The support will mark the transition from the R-ARCSS to South Sudan in which government and society are based upon a constitutional order and democratic legitimacy.

Appui à la formation professionnelle duale au Rwanda

To achieve the development aspirations of Rwanda, one of the critical elements is to build strong bridges between the world of work and training institutions. This project aims to improve the quality of education by emphasizing on strengthening national mechanisms for decision-making, system integration and active engagement of the private sector in the skills development process. It will therefore focus more on institutionalization and sustainability by integrating all the stakeholders in a high-performance and locally adapted TVET system.

Dans le contexte de crise sécuritaire et sociale au Burkina Faso, la culture est un des vecteurs pour la cohésion sociale et la paix. L’appui de la Suisse vise à maintenir les capacités de créativité et d’innovations culturelles tenant compte de la sensibilité au contexte. Ces appuis permettront aussi de préserver les acquis, d’améliorer les conditions socioéconomiques et professionnelles des artistes ainsi que leurs contributions pour la cohésion sociale et la paix.

Peru, SEDAPAL: Emergency Water Supply in Lima

Lima with a population of over 12 million is subject to the highest seismic vulnerability in Peru. Hence, ensuring Lima’s water supply continuity in case of a major earthquake is crucial. The initiative aims at contributing to strengthened preparedness capacities of Lima’s water service provider (SEDAPAL) by improving its technical, financial and logistical capacities, knowledge exchange and inter-sectorial coordination together with key partners from government, academia, and the private sector.

P4H – Social Health Protection Network

Sustainably financed health systems are better able to respond to shocks such as a health crisis and are also in a better position to respond to patients’ health needs without exposing them to financial hardship. The P4H Social Health Protection Network provides coordinated support to low-and middle-income countries that want to raise more domestic resources for health and use available financing effectively for key health priorities.

ReCAP - Regional Climate Action Partnership in the Hindu Kush Himalayas

The Hindu Kush Himalayas are highly vulnerable to climate disasters. Multi-hazard risk models and early warning systems are pivotal for de-risking public and private investments and protection of communities. In the first project phase, Switzerland provides technical assistance to the Government of Nepal, local private companies and academia to build required institutional capacities in close collaboration with the Asian Development Bank and the World Bank.

Skills for Jobs (S4J)

Albania is reforming its vocational education and training system to upgrade the students’ employability. S4J promotes work-based learning, digitalization and diversification of the VET offer, as per the labour market needs. To sustain the reform process, the exit phase consolidates the transfer of these innovative processes to additional VET providers and companies.
