Women’s Economic Empowerment in the South Caucasus

In 2017, Switzerland embarked on a multi-donor project which laid a solid foundation for women’s economic empowerment in the South Caucasus, yet, further support is needed to fulfil women’s rights, which remain constrained by structural and cultural barriers. The Swiss-funded contribution will support capacity-building and provide technical assistance at institutions and policy level and, combined with activities at grassroots level, benefit at least 1’850 vulnerable women in Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia
Strengthening the Climate Adaptation Capacities in the South Caucasus

The project will (i) facilitate the development of multi-hazard mapping and risk assessment methodology enabling 1.7 million inhabitants’ reduced exposure towards climate-induced hazards in Georgia; (ii) contribute to the safer livelihoods and infrastructure of 373’800 residents in ten municipalities by developing response and preparedness plans; and (iii) foster evidence-based policymaking and advocacy on climate adaptation, natural hazards and mountain development in the South Caucasus.

Nei tre Paesi del Caucaso meridionale (Armenia, Azerbaigian e Georgia) molte donne sono vittime di discriminazioni sul mercato del lavoro. Una politica delle pari opportunità che sostenga la creazione di posti di lavoro nell’economia formale non esiste, le donne lavorano nel sistema informale e non sono tutelate. Il progetto «Women’s Economic Empowerment in the South Caucasus» (empowerment economico delle donne nel Caucaso meridionale) mira a promuovere l’emancipazione delle donne nel settore economico per favorire l’accesso paritario al mercato del lavoro e al mondo imprenditoriale.

L’allevamento di bestiame è una fonte di reddito importante per la maggior parte della popolazione rurale in Georgia, Armenia e Azerbaigian. Tuttavia, molti contadini conducono un’economia di sussistenza e, di conseguenza, riescono a malapena a coprire il proprio fabbisogno. Il progetto persegue l’obiettivo di rafforzare le piccole aziende agricole e di creare l’accesso ai mercati, per far sì che possano vendere miele, carne, formaggio e lana e aumentare in modo sostenibile il loro reddito.

Sostenere la tracciabilità degli animali nella regione del Caucaso meridionale

Nell’agricoltura moderna è indispensabile conoscere la provenienza degli animali e raccogliere informazioni sulla loro salute per evitare la propagazione di malattie e impedire la commercializzazione di prodotti derivanti da animali malati. Un sistema di tracciabilità contribuirà ad aumentare i redditi degli agricoltori del Caucaso meridionale grazie all’effetto combinato di una migliore produttività degli allevamenti e di un migliore accesso ai mercati per i prodotti.

The project will contribute to the transition towards a free market system in target communities in central Azerbaijan through a sustainable increase of incomes of male and female farmers in animal husbandry using a market development approach. The central part of Azerbaijan has a good potential for inclusive growth in agriculture. However, lack of proper markets, services and knowledge prevent poor farmers to gain better incomes.

Regional Art and Culture Programme in the South Caucasus

The present project promotes contemporary arts as an open and interactive platform that can display new perspectives and social mechanisms to the audience, and that can support and stimulate South Caucasian artists. It will be implemented by Georgian and international organizations and focuses on contemporary dance and experimental arts; small grants; arts for marginalised communities; and capacity building of arts and culture institutions.
