Torrential rain and extremely high winds have been flooding several regions of Myanmar since the end of July 2015. In addition to dozens reported deaths, over a million people have been left affected by this natural disaster.
Swiss Humanitarian Aid responded immediately by distributing food and drinking water in the south-east of the country, where it is already running projects. On 4 August 2015, when the Myanmar authorities accepted international aid, Switzerland decided to make a budget of USD 126,00 available to support relief efforts. The money has been transferred to SDC partners involved in distributing basic necessities.
Switzerland has a good network of partners in Myanmar, as it has run a variety of humanitarian and development aid projects in the country for many years. Swiss Humanitarian Aid continues to monitor the situation.
