SDC BRAC Social Cohesion Fund for Cox’s Bazar District

This fund strengthens social cohesion in Cox’s Bazar by mitigating the negative consequences of the refugee influx on the most vulnerable segments of the local population. It will strategically upscale projects of BRAC, the biggest Bangladeshi NGO, through a series of medium-term contributions, adapted to the volatile context and emerging needs. The first two projects will support over 60’000 poor people to claim their rights and obtain legal redress and place 4’500 poor people in gainful employment. The intervention complements the engagement of Swiss Humanitarian Aid.

Bioculture and Climate Change

Bolivia is highly vulnerable to the effects of Climate Change, particularly in its regions of greater population density and poverty. Over two phases, the program has helped Bolivia to improve the resilience capacity of its most vulnerable communities, while in parallel building up and strengthening the public sector’s capacity in this area. The third and final phase aims to consolidate the mechanisms put in place by the State to implement its climate change related policies at national and subnational levels.

Contribution to UN COVID-19 Appeal Global Humanitarian Response Plan, April-December 2020

Established in 2005 as the UN’s global emergency response fund, the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) pools contributions from donors around the world into a single fund allowing humanitarian responders to deliver life-saving assistance whenever and wherever crises hit. The CERF’s allocations from the Rapid Response Window for COVID-19 focus on supporting the Global Humanitarian Response Plan’s efforts in providing emergency relief assistance to those most at risk in the most vulnerable countries already with on-going humanitarian operations.

SomReP - Somalia Resilience Program

In the fragile and conflict affected context of Somalia, SDC’s contribution to the Somalia Resilience Programme Consortium enables pastoral, agro-pastoral, displaced persons and peri-urban poor to increase their ability to prepare for, adapt to and live through shocks without eroding their productivity or assets. Focusing on capacity building, livelihood diversification and the elaboration of community-based early warning systems, this initiative is complementary to ongoing efforts of government of Somalia and international community to build resilience of communities to climate shocks.

PROMYPE Project Integral services to improve the performance of urban micro and small enterprises in Bolivia

Micro and small enterprises in urban areas of Bolivia face difficulties that limit them increasing their productivity and improving incomes and jobs for their workers. The PROMYPE Project (formerly Jiwasa) supports the provision of integral public services aimed at addressing bottlenecks in production conditions and access to finance and markets. It also promotes the linking of national and local policies to support MSEs.

ASEAN/AHA Centre: Capacity Development

The ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on Disaster Management (AHA Centre) is an intergovernmental organisation with the aim to facilitate cooperation and coordination in disaster management amongst the 10 ASEAN Member States. SDC will support the development of capacities of the AHA Centre to become a regional disaster management hub, thereby implementing the ASEAN-Switzerland Sectoral Dialogue Partnership in the Practical Cooperation Area on “Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance”, and the Memorandum of Intent agreed on 1st August 2019 between Switzerland and the AHA Centre.

Support for the elections process in Bolivia

New elections in Bolivia will be held in May 2020 at national level and in November 2020 at local and regional level. SDC support will strengthen the legitimacy of the Plurinational Electoral Agency, and give continuity to the work of civil society to improve media information and electoral observation. This will help overcome the crisis following the general election in October 2019, restore the public’s confidence in the transparency, independence and impartiality of the electoral process and strengthen the role of civil society.


Swiss Investment Fund for Emerging Markets (SIFEM) – Least Developed Countries (LDC) Risk Support

To accelerate Swiss investments into Least Developed Countries (LDCs), this programme will establish a co-operation between SDC and the Swiss Investment Fund for Emerging Markets (SIFEM). The co-operation is built on the provision of first loss guarantees, financed by SDC, for SIFEM investments benefitting local Small and Medium Enterprises in LDCs. This innovative programme will also build capacities in local financial markets and help to mobilize private and public sector funds for fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goals.

Opportunities for Youth Employment (OYE)

Inspired by aspects of the Swiss Vocational Skills Development model, the Opportunities for Youth Employment project aims to improve the livelihoods of young rural and peri-urban out-of-school women and men. In addition to building youths' skills-set and connecting them with existing markets for gainful selfemployment in agriculture and renewable energy, this project will also contribute to a more youth friendly and effective market system and policy environment Co-funding is provided by the private sector.

Mali : UNICEF — Protection des enfants affectés par les conflits armés

01.03.2020 - 28.02.2023

Les violations graves des droits de l'enfant sont en forte augmentation au Mali. Le recrutement de

filles et de garçons par les groupes armés a doublé en 2019. En contribuant à ce projet de

l'UNICEF, la Suisse intensifie la surveillance et la prévention de ces violations, facilite le retrait de

400 enfants des groupes armés et soutient leur réintégration sociale et éducative durable. La

Suisse contribue ainsi à la cohésion sociale et fait concourir les efforts humanitaires, de

développement et de paix.

PROMEL - Programme de Promotion de l’entreprenariat local

Dans le contexte fragile du Niger, avec une économie peu diversifiée et informelle à 60%, le secteur agricole offre des emplois précaires à 85% de la population et constitue 40% du PIB. En exploitant ce potentiel avec l'approche systémique du développement des marchés, la Suisse vise à promouvoir l'entrepreneuriat agricole pour les femmes et les jeunes dans les régions de Dosso et Maradi. Cela contribuera à une croissance économique inclusive, à la cohésion sociale, à la paix et à la stabilité dans ces régions.

Contribution de la Suisse au Fonds international pour la diversité culturelle FIDC

La Suisse a ratifié la Convention 2005 sur la protection et la promotion de la diversité des expressions culturelles de l’UNESCO. Une contribution au Fonds international pour la diversité culturelle FIDC, instrument mis en place par la Convention, est un engagement qui complète une position et une politique cohérente de la Suisse pour renforcer la mise en œuvre de la Convention et une contribution pour accroître les capacités et le dynamisme des scènes culturelles dans les pays en développement.
