Dr. Ralf Heckner, Ambassador of Switzerland to India and Bhutan, will travel to Bhutan from July 31 to August 3, 2023. He will be accompanied by a 30-member high-level business delegation from 16 Swiss companies and chambers of commerce. The Swiss business mission is titled "Back to Business for a Sustainable Future", and is the second such visit to Bhutan, the first being in 2019.

The key objective of the visit is to help introduce the Swiss firms to decision makers, potential partners, and future opportunities in the agriculture, infrastructure, transport, finance, tourism, healthcare, education/skilling and energy sectors. The visit will serve to further strengthen economic cooperation between Switzerland and Bhutan.

The Bhutan Chamber of Commerce and Industry will sign two Memorandums of Understanding on business cooperation with the Swiss-Asian Chamber of Commerce and the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services. Additionally, Ferring Pharmaceuticals is expected to launch a path-breaking drug for the prevention of post-partum haemorrhage, a major issue of maternal mortality. After a long absence due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the business mission will symbolically mark the return of a strong Swiss presence in Bhutan, a comeback that will be brought to the fore by the celebration of Swiss National Day on 1st August.

The companies represented in the delegation include: Cotecna, Ferring Pharmaceuticals, Geobrugg AG, Hamilton Medical, Hilti, IGP Instar, MFM Mirante Fund Management SA, MounTech AG, Naturayuva, Pini Group, Roche Diagnostics, Swiss NeWater, SWISS/ Lufthansa Airlines, Ypsomed, as well as the Swiss-Asian Chamber of Commerce and the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services.

The Swiss business mission ‘Back to Business for a Sustainable Future’ is being organized by the Embassy of Switzerland to India and Bhutan and Switzerland Global Enterprise (S-GE), the official export and investment promotion agency of the Swiss Government, mandated by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), in close cooperation with the Swiss Business Hub India.
