Smart & Sustainable Solutions: the Swiss way doing architecture and technology

This afternoon, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Switzerland in China Mr. Thomas Stähli and Deputy Director-General of Bureau of International Exchanges and Cooperation of China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism Mr. Zheng Hao jointly opened the ‘Smart & Sustainable Solutions’ exhibition, exploring innovative solutions from Switzerland for tackling sustainability challenges. In the subsequent opening forum, dedicated to ‘Smart architecture for sustainable development’, five veteran Chinese architects shared examples of successful Swiss and Chinese projects along with their perspectives on how innovative technology can make architecture more sustainable.

This morning, the Ambassador of Switzerland to China, Mr. Bernardino Regazzoni, opened the Swiss National Pavilion at the inaugural China International Consumer Products Expo (Hainan Expo) alongside the Secretary-General and Vice Governor of Hainan Province, Mr. Ni Qiang, the Director General of the Department of European Affairs, Ministry of Commerce of China, Mr. Zhai Qian, and representatives of Swiss exhibitors. Switzerland, as exclusive Guest Country of Honour, will showcase its innovativeness, traditions and sustainability under the motto ‘This is Swiss quality’.


First Swiss Machining Seminar held in Beijing

Switzerland is the official Guest Country of Honour at the 1st edition of China International Consumer Products Expo (Hainan Expo). On behalf of the Swiss Confederation, the Swiss Business Hub China, an integrated section of the Embassy of Switzerland in China, in collaboration with Switzerland Global Enterprise (S-GE), will organize and operate the Swiss National Pavilion at the upcoming Hainan Expo from 7-10 May 2021 in Haikou. Located in Hall 5-5T002 of the Hainan International Convention & Exhibition Center Haikou, the Swiss National Pavilion is 200m² large and will exhibit some of the most prominent testimonials of Swiss innovation and lifestyle.

The Strategy sets out the objectives and measures for Swiss policy on China for the 2021–24 period. This year marks the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Switzerland, one of the first Western countries to recognise the People’s Republic of China. In the seven decades of diplomatic ties, bilateral relations have reached many milestones marked by, for instance, the Free Trade Agreement in 2013, the first FTA China signed with a continental European country. The two countries’ relations have been flourishing in recent years, with frequent reciprocal visits of top officials and close exchanges on all levels. To commemorate the 70 years of diplomatic ties, the Embassy of Switzerland is running a series of profiles of people who have contributed greatly to our two nations’ relations.
