As the official representation of Switzerland, the Embassy covers all matters concerning diplomatic relations between theCosta Rica, El Salvador, Nicaragua and Panama. It represents Swiss interests in the areas of political, economic, financial and legal affairs, as well as science, education and culture.

The tasks of the embassy

Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships 2026–2027

Each year, the Swiss Confederation awards Government Excellence Scholarships to promote international exchange and foster research cooperation between Switzerland and more than 180 countries.

For Costa Rican students, three types of scholarships are available:

  • Research Fellowship: Offers selected candidates the opportunity to carry out a one-year research project as part of their doctoral studies at a Swiss higher education institution or a recognized research institute.
  • PhD Scholarship: Supports selected candidates in pursuing a doctoral degree at a Swiss university or a recognized research institute.
  • Postdoctoral Scholarship: Enables researchers to conduct a postdoctoral research project at a Swiss university or a recognized research institute.
