Biography of Ambassador Andreas Baum

Born in Zürich in 1963, Dr. Andreas Baum holds a Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Lausanne and a Master’s degree in International Relations and International Economics from Johns Hopkins University (SAIS) in Washington, D.C. He joined the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs in 1991 and served in Bern before taking on senior diplomatic roles abroad, including as Deputy Head of Mission in Canada and Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York. He later served as Ambassador and Head of Mission to Nigeria, Chad and Niger, Israel, India, Bhutan and Japan. Since 3 November 2024, Ambassador Baum has been serving as Ambassador and Head of Mission of Switzerland to the Arab Republic of Egypt, based in Cairo. He also serves as Chargé d'Affaires for Sudan since 2024.
