COVID-19: Switzerland Supports Project for Vulnerable Migrants in Central Asia

The UN International Organization for Migration (IOM) in cooperation with Central Asian (CA) countries and Russia launched on September 16, 2020, a regional initiative «Mitigating Socio-Economic Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Migrants and Communities in CA and Russia». The initiative is supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) with 1 Mio CHF.

Swiss Ambassador joins video statement “Water – Building Peace across borders”

Since more than 10 years, Switzerland is promoting cross-border and integrated water management as an instrument to foster peace and development. In a video statement alongside other Swiss representatives, Ambassador Urs Schmid gives insight into this initiative called Blue Peace, which is also aiming at supporting countries in Central Asia to develop a more effective, regional management of water.

The mid-year review of the Blue Peace Central Asia Initiative, conducted on April 27-28, 2020, brought together representatives of SECO, BAFU, Swiss Embassies in Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, the Office of Swiss Development Cooperation in Tajikistan, the Special Water Envoy of Switzerland, Mr. Guy Bonvin, and the Regional Water Advisor of Switzerland, Mr. André Wehrli. Due to the COVID-19, the meeting was held online.


Screening of the Swiss film “the Woman and the TGV”

In the framework of the “Printemps Francophone 2020”, on March 4, the Embassy of Switzerland organized a screening of the Swiss film “the Woman and the TGV” by the young Swiss director Timo von Gunten. Mr. Alain Maniciati, representative of the Swiss Embassy, welcomed the spectators and emphasized that Switzerland is a member of the “Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie” since 1989 and remains one of its largest donors.

Visit of the Swiss President in Kazakhstan

On November 22, 2019, the President of Swiss Confederation, Ueli Maurer, paid an official visit to Kazakhstan at the invitation of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The two presidents had talks in a narrow format followed by a working breakfast with participation of the representatives of the Swiss private sector.
