Message from Head of Cooperation

Local news, 03.10.2022

Dear readers,

It’s that time of the year again. In transitioning to the coldest months of the year, we are simultaneously moving closer to the New Year.

We can use this as a moment to reflect on the opportunities and challenges that our circumstances and actions presented.

I find it a good moment to take stock of the decisions I made in my personal and professional life for the betterment of my conduct in the approaching year.

This reminds me this is the last issue of the year of our newsletter "Onsite Insights". Dedicated to the theme of "governance", I am pleased to present this final issue for 2022.

Are you wondering why this newsletter will focus on governance? This is because, in Switzerland, peace and governance go hand in hand.

With international cooperation as part of Switzerland's foreign policy, the country promotes peace and good governance through the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) in all developing countries where SDC exists.

In addition, Switzerland can count on the intelligence gained from its history, which was not always painless and did have its ups and downs.

Around the world, through its projects and programs, SDC strengthens human rights, participates in the settlement and prevention of conflicts, and, as is the case here in Mongolia, strengthens public institutions, civil society, and the participation of citizens so that services are up to the mark for meeting the actual needs of the population.

The themes of peace, gender equality, and good governance are at the center of cooperation. Good governance frames all our sustainable interventions.

Through this issue of the newsletter, you will gain insights into some of our projects contributing to sustainable development. Of course, we hope we can inspire you with our selection of mutual achievements.

I personally believe good governance is key for the peaceful and harmonious coexistence of human beings in the context of evolving geopolitics.

Therefore, I think we should warm ourselves to the idea of honest and accountable governance in the run-up to the end-of-year preparations.

Let’s pause to consider and reconsider the decisions we can make to reduce tensions between and around us.

We all need peace to flourish and prosper. I wish you good reading.

Stefanie Burri,

Head of Cooperation
