FDFA State Secretary Yves Rossier has visited South Africa and Burundi

As part of a four-day visit ending today, the State Secretary of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), Yves Rossier, has held political consultations in South Africa and Burundi. In South Africa, the two parties established a platform for cooperation in the area of human rights. In Burundi, the State Secretary met with President Pierre Nkurunziza as well as several key stakeholders in light of the elections to be held in June of this year.

Jacques Pitteloud appointed new Director-General of the Directorate for Resources

The Federal Council has appointed Jacques Pitteloud, currently head of mission in Nairobi, as director general of the Directorate for Resources within the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) in Bern. The Directorate for Resources (DR) is responsible for securing and managing resources within the FDFA.

OSCE Ministerial Council 2013: Switzerland stresses the need for dialogue in building a security community for the benefit of everyone

Speaking in his capacity as the next chairman-in-office of the OSCE at the closing plenary session of the Ministerial Council of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA), Federal Councillor Didier Burkhalter, paid homage to the deceased former South African president, Nelson Mandela, as an exemplar of freedom and reconciliation. The representatives of the 57 OSCE member states adopted several decisions and declarations at the close of this year's Ministerial Council in Kiev.

Death of Nelson Mandela – Condolences of the President of the Swiss Confederation, Ueli Maurer

On behalf of the people of Switzerland and the Federal Council, Mr Maurer conveys his sincere condolences to the people and government of South Africa. The President of the Swiss Confederation extends its deepest sympathies to the family of the former President of South Africa. He shares with the South African people their great pain on this very sad occasion.

High-level consultations between Switzerland and South Africa

The 5th session of the South Africa-Switzerland High-Level consultations taking place in Fribourg was co-chaired by Mr Yves Rossier, Swiss State Secretary of Foreign Affairs, and Mr Marius Fransman, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the Republic of South Africa. The high-level representatives of both countries agreed on principles that underscored their conviction that the enhancement of bilateral economic relations and scientific cooperation be pursued and their intention to intensify cooperation at regional and multilateral levels.

Swiss government names new Ambassadors

The Swiss government (Federal Council) has approved the list of diplomatic staff transfers scheduled for 2014 submitted by the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs. The changes will be made in accordance with the normal rate of transfers, to be communicated at the time of the decision by the Federal Council. The appointments of Heads of Mission take effect as soon as the authorities in the host country communicate their approval. The Federal Council takes this opportunity to express its gratitude to the Ambassadors due to retire for the services rendered.
