Application for Schengen visa and procedure

  • Registration at the gate for appointments starts at 08.00h – 9.30h.
  • Opening hours for applications/collecting passports: Sunday-Wednesday 09.30h-11.45h
  • Opening hours for Eritrean Citizens: Sunday-Wednesday, 13.00h-14.15h.
  • The procedure for a Schengen visa for Sudanese citizens takes at least 15 calendar days.
  • The procedure for a Schengen visa for Eritrean citizens can take up to several weeks as the Embassy has to submitt the application to the Swiss authoroties.
  • Visa application forms are free of charge
  • The Embassy cannot be held responsible for costs involved when a visa is refused.
  • The Embassy recommends to carry all your documents during your stay in Switzerland, which you enclosed with your visa application.

As a general rule, a decision is taken by the Consulate within 15 days. This period may, in individual cases, be extended.

Some Schengen States require that they be consulted on visa applications submitted to other Schengen States by citizens of certain countries. The consultation process may take up to 14 calendar days. Such consultation is currently required for nationals of the countries listed here:

It is therefore recommended to submit the visa application early, at the earliest 6 months before the planned journey.  

The reasons for refusal are notified to the applicant using a standard form.

You have the right to appeal within 30 days of receipt of the refusal. For information on appeal procedures, please refer to the webpage of the State Secretariat for Migration.

Biometric data (fingerprints) are generally collected every 59 months from the age of 12 years from the first recording.  

If you are a family member of a Swiss, European Union (EU) or European Free Trade Association (EFTA) citizen, you are entitled to submit your application directly at the responsible Embassy or Consulate of Switzerland. An appointment is mandatory and must be booked in advance.

If you wish to complain about the behavior of the consular staff and, if applicable, about the external service provider or about the process, please contact the competent representation in writing.

The Embassy of Switzerland in Khartoum issues entry visa for Switzerland, the Czech Republic and the Slovak Republic to persons with residence in the Sudan.

If the stay in Czech Republic or the Slovak Republic will exceed 3 month and/or be for employment, study, marriage or family reunion, the application must be lodged directly with the concerned Embassies in Cairo:

Please make sure to submit a duly completed and signed application form accompanied by all the required documents. Please note that there are different types of visa to which different requirements apply. For futher information please refer to "Visa C Requirements" below.

Important concerning Visa C Requirement: If you are invited by a company or a resident of the Czech Republic or Slovak Republic, a copy of the official invitation letter (Pozvání / Pozvania) issued by the Czech or Slovak authoroties has to be submitted with all other documents.
